A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Friends and neighbors,

I would like to take this time to wish the entire East Grand Rapids community a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday.

We have so many things to be grateful for in East Grand Rapids. Our community’s unique charm, spirit, natural beauty and commitment to one another make East a better place to live, work and play. As Mayor, I am thankful for the opportunity to lead this incredible City and work alongside a dedicated team of public servants whose jobs day in and day out are to ensure residents have exceptional services and resources.

I am also thankful for the opportunity to officially kick off the holiday season at the annual tree lighting ceremony in Gaslight Village the day after Thanksgiving. Please join me in caroling and gathering as a community to celebrate the season. I hope to see you there.

THANKSGIVING SAFETY REMINDERS

The holiday season is here – and with that comes gatherings, food, travel and shopping. While it’s easy to get caught up in the holiday cheer, it’s important to stay on top of your safety game to ensure the season is enjoyable for everyone. As such, our Public Safety Department has a few reminders for you during the Thanksgiving holiday:

  • Always stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stove top.
  • Don't leave your home when cooking food in the oven and check on it frequently.
  • If you plan to travel for the holiday, remember to lock up your home, outbuildings and remaining vehicles.
  • Remove all valuable items from your yard and car and store them inside your house or garage, including bikes and toys, yard equipment and power tools.

KIDS’ FOOD BASKET GOBBLE WOBBLE 5K RUN/WALK

The annual Gobble Wobble run/walk takes place 8-10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This race raises funds for local nonprofit Kids’ Food Basket. Community members and drivers are asked to be mindful of runners and walkers along the course during this time.

Holiday Tree Lighting. 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, Regatta Plaza.

ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
Kick off the holiday season in Gaslight Village with the annual tree lighting ceremony this Friday.

The tree lighting will be the centerpiece of festivities 5-8 p.m. in Regatta Plaza, 2181 Wealthy St. SE. In addition to the lighting of the 30-foot tree, visitors can enjoy a variety of all-ages entertainment, including s’mores, carriage rides, reindeer petting and a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Mayor Katie Favale will lead the crowd in several holiday carols to begin the lighting ceremony.

GASLIGHT VILLAGE SIP AND SHOP

The Gaslight Village Business Association welcomes community members to its Sip and Shop event 4-8 p.m. Dec. 8 for holiday shopping specials. Gift wrapping will be available 5-8 p.m. at StretchLab, provided by the EGR High School Key Club and EGR Schools Foundation.

Snow plow

WINTER WEATHER OPERATIONS & LEAF PICKUP

With winter weather here, learn about the City's street and sidewalk salting and plowing operations, priority road routes and how you can help make snowplowing easier for our team here. 

During heavy snowfall events, leaf pickup may be intermittently interrupted so our crews can focus on snowplowing. Leaf pickup continues through the week of Dec. 5.
