Friends and neighbors, As the leaves begin to change and cooler air settles in, fall is another wonderful season to enjoy our community. I encourage you to take time to walk, bike or simply pause along our beautiful trails and parks to soak in the vibrant colors and crisp autumn days. October also brings several opportunities to gather with neighbors and enjoy all-ages activities. From 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 25, Public Safety will host its annual open house and drug takeback day. This is a great chance to meet our dedicated public safety professionals, enjoy some light refreshments and responsibly dispose of any unused or expired medication. As Halloween approaches, the Gaslight Village Business Association invites community members to put on their costumes and enjoy an afternoon of trick-or-treating from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 29. This popular event is a fun way to celebrate spooky season together in the heart of Gaslight Village. For Halloween night, I encourage parents and caregivers to review Public Safety’s Halloween safety tips to help ensure a safe evening for all. Whether you are savoring the season’s colors along Reeds Lake, enjoying an afternoon at the parks or joining in one of our fall events, I hope you feel a sense of warmth and connection to our community that makes East Grand Rapids such a special place to call home. ADOPT-A-DRAIN As the seasons change and leaves start to fall, drains will slowly get covered and may cause localized flooding (as pictured above). Keep your local storm drains clear of leaves and other debris to improve our local water quality and prevent flooding. You can adopt your local storm drain by visiting https://www.lgrow.org/adopt-a-drain.
TRAFFIC CIRCLE FEEDBACK In partnership with the Grand Valley Metro Council, we’re testing temporary traffic circles at the intersections of Lakeside Drive and Reeds Lake Boulevard and Lakeside Drive, Greenwood Avenue and Shopping Center Drive. This will be in place through October, with the goal of testing potential solutions for long-term safety and traffic flow. We want your feedback. Please take the survey to share your thoughts regarding these temporary traffic circles. Please note this is a temporary test. The pilot is shaped by current roadway constraints, and any future options would be better designed to accommodate pedestrian safety and vehicle flow, which may result in different design and layout options.
